Chapter 1: Online Programme
As well as discussions and sharing sessions, our first chapter also included a four-part online reading group which provided a space to explore the issues relating to land, water, farming and food, covered in the discussion more in-depth. We took an expanded notion to ‘reading’, with each session including both a text as well as a film. Materials were shared with participants in advance, but we also read and watched them together during the session, followed by an open and informal discussion in mixed language between Indonesian / English to make space for each participant to speak in the language they felt most comfortable with. For the texts, participants were invited to take it in turns to read aloud, reading for as long or as short as they liked. Unlike the discussion series, the reading groups were not live streamed, but by registration only, creating a safe space to share and test out ideas. Below we share a description of each of the four reading sessions as well as reading materials.
