A discussion with artist Kathrin Böhm, co-founder of the community drinks enterprise Company Drinks (London, UK) and the artist duo Badan Kajian Pertanahan (Wates, Jatiwangi, Indonesia). Although coming from very different contexts, both groups mobilize specific rural histories rooted in the land to encourage collectivity and solidarity in the present, working both on a conceptual and theoretical level within an art world, and on a grassroots level with or within communities, collaborating with neighbours, residents, local leaders, government councils and many more.
In this talk, the artists shared their practice, addressed current urgencies and joined in a conversation to discuss broader topics such as land use and ownership, artistic strategies for the commons, community economies and more. The event was moderated by Sanne Oorthuizen (Struggles for Sovereignty).
